Common questions about the AI resume checker, ATS, tailoring, credits and job searches.
Yes — new members can try AidMyCV free for 7 days with 20 credits. You enter a card to start ($0 today); when the trial ends you move to the Basic plan at just $6.99 a month for 40 credits, unless you cancel first. Other resume sites often charge up to $50 a month after their trial — we don't. We email you a reminder before it ends, and cancelling during the trial means you're never charged. See Buying credits and monthly plans.
Yes — use the Continue with Google, Facebook or Apple buttons on the login and sign-up pages. If you already have an account with the same email, it's linked automatically.
You can run a free resume check on the home page without an account — it checks length, sections, contact details, measurable results and job keywords instantly. Creating an account is free too, and comes with free credits for the full AI analysis. After that you can buy credits or earn free ones by referring friends. You never need a subscription — monthly plans are optional.
Yes. Use the AI resume builder: choose one of three professional templates, enter your contact details, work history, skills and education in plain words, and optionally add the job you want. The AI turns it into a polished, ATS-friendly Word resume (it never invents jobs, dates or numbers). You can fill it in without an account; you'll need a free account to see and download the result, which uses 1 credit. Switching templates afterwards is free.
Yes. The AI cover letter generator writes a letter from a resume saved in your account and the job you're applying for — pick it from My Jobs, paste the job link, or paste the description. Choose a tone and length, and add anything you want mentioned. It only uses facts from your resume. Writing a letter uses 1 credit; editing it, switching designs, downloading the Word file and saving as PDF are free.
Yes. The AI resume review reads every section of your resume — and the job you're applying for, if you add one — and writes the improved version of each part, with a short reason. You accept, edit or skip each change (or accept them all), watch the preview update, and download a finished Word resume in a clean, ATS-friendly design. It never invents facts. A review uses 2 credits (3–4 for long resumes).
Yes. The portfolio website builder turns your resume (or several) into a professional portfolio site at aidmycv.com/p/your-name in about a minute — no coding needed. Add pictures of your work or create them with AI. Building uses 2–5 credits depending on resume length and pictures; editing is free, and hosting is free. Free accounts show a "Get your free portfolio page at aidmycv.com" banner at the top of the page; members with a paying monthly plan, or credits left from a credit pack they bought, have no banner.
An applicant tracking system (ATS) is the software most employers use to collect and filter applications. It reads your resume as text and ranks it against the job's keywords. Our ATS resume checker flags the things that commonly trip an ATS — missing sections, missing contact details, no measurable results and missing keywords from the job description — so you can fix them before you apply.
Paste the job description next to your resume. AidMyCV compares the two, shows which keywords and requirements are missing, and rewrites your bullets to match the role — without changing names, dates, employers or job titles. Saved jobs in My Jobs can be tailored in one click. See tailoring your resume to a job description.
PDF and DOCX resumes, up to 5MB. The section-by-section editor with format-preserving edits is DOCX-only — but if you only have a PDF, choose "Turn my PDF into a Word resume" (1 credit): AI puts your PDF into one of our designs as an editable Word file, keeping your wording exactly as written.
Yes, for Word files. When you upload a .docx, the improved version is your own document edited line by line — your layout, fonts, headings, tables and bullets are kept. PDFs can't be edited in place, so for a PDF you get a plain-text rewrite to copy into your resume — or turn your PDF into a Word resume first (1 credit), then improve that with its formatting kept.
Your resume is sent to Claude for analysis and is not used to train models. It's processed for your request and not retained beyond what's needed to generate your results.
It's optional — paste the description, or just paste the link to the posting and we'll read it for you (a few sites, like LinkedIn, don't allow this, so paste the text from those). Including one lets the suggestions focus on the specific keywords and requirements that job is looking for, instead of general resume advice. Our resume keyword scanner shows exactly which terms you're missing.
Add a search on the Job Searches page — a job title and where you want to work, or let AI read your resume and fill it in for you. We check it every day and add new jobs to My Jobs, then email you a summary as often as you choose. You can also add any job you find yourself with + Add a job in My Jobs.
Job search results come from Adzuna, which collects listings from thousands of job sites and company career pages. LinkedIn doesn't share its listings with other sites, so for a LinkedIn job, use + Add a job, or forward your LinkedIn alert emails to us (optional — see the bottom of the Job Searches page).
Each AI action — analyzing a resume, generating an improved resume, AI line suggestions, or tailoring a resume to a job — uses 1 credit. Long resumes use more: 2 credits from about 2 pages, 3 credits from about 4 pages. Everything else is free. If an action fails, the credit is refunded automatically. Credits you buy never expire (credits from a monthly plan reset each month).
Yes — on the Buy credits page you can subscribe to a monthly plan for the lowest price per credit. You get a fresh set of credits each month; they're used before any credits you bought, and unused monthly credits don't roll over. Cancel anytime from the same page — you keep the plan until the end of the month you paid for.
On the Buy credits page you can pay by card (including Apple Pay and Google Pay, handled by Stripe) or with PayPal or Venmo. We never see your card details.
Credits are usually added within seconds. Refresh the page; if they're still missing after a few minutes, contact us with the email you paid with and we'll sort it out.
Both work. In the US and Canada "resume" usually means a one- to two-page summary, while in the UK, Ireland and much of Europe the same document is called a CV. AidMyCV handles either — upload whatever you send to employers.
The Community is where members share job search tips, job leads, success stories and ideas for improving AidMyCV. Anyone can read it; a free account lets you post and reply under a display name you choose (or anonymously). Posts are checked automatically to keep out spam, and we regularly thank our most helpful members with free credits.
Not automatically. It can tailor your resume to a specific listing, but you review and submit each application yourself.
